Who We Are

I’m Shadé Mckenzie, the founder of Hair Smoothie. I started my natural hair journey over 10 years ago, not because it was trendy, but because my hair was dry, brittle, and breaking, and nothing on the market really worked for me. I didn’t grow up with the knowledge, access, or products needed to properly care for my hair, and that lack of representation stuck with me.

So, I created my own solution.

Hair Smoothie started as a personal experiment in my aunt's kitchen, just me trying to make something that would actually feed my hair. I spent nearly a year testing my blends on myself, family, and friends. What I found was that with the right ingredients, intention, and consistency, our hair can flourish. I extended my product to a friend that was struggling with postpartum hair thinning at the time, and after see amazing results she convinced me that this wasn’t just for me anymore. It was time to share my product with the world... with you.

Today, I offer a line of all-natural products that are rich in moisture, full of premium ingredients like shea butter made specifically for textured hair. My Liquid Gold collection was formulated to restore hydration, strengthen strands, and bring life back to hair that’s been neglected, misunderstood, or overprocessed. I’ve used these products since day one, and I still do — because they work.

But Hair Smoothie is bigger than products.

As a Jamaican woman, my Caribbean upbringing taught me the power of resourcefulness, community, and culture. Those values are woven into everything I do. I created Hair Smoothie to be more than a brand, it's a movement rooted in healing, learning, and pride. Our mission is to shift the narrative around textured hair and build a safe space where people from all walks of life feel seen, celebrated, and empowered.

We’re here to make real change, not just in the hair world, but in how we see ourselves and where we come from. I’m building a future where healthy hair and cultural confidence go hand in hand.

This is only the beginning — and I’m so glad you’re here.
